Cable Tie Sizes Chart
Cable Tie Sizes: Length, Bundle Diameter and Tensile Strength Chart
Choosing the right cable tie size comes down to two numbers: the diameter you need to close, which sets the length, and the load to be held, which sets the width. COBRA standard PA6.6 nylon cable ties range from 80 x 2.4 mm (max. Ø 17 mm, 8 kg strength) to 1500 x 9 mm (max. Ø 460 mm, 79.8 kg strength).
The rule: length sets the diameter, width sets the strength
In the standard range, each width has its own strength rating, while a longer tie increases the maximum closing diameter.
| Width (mm) | Available lengths (mm) | Max. closing Ø (mm) | Min. declared strength (kg) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2.4 | 80 | 17 | 8 |
| 2.5 | 100 · 140 · 160 · 200 | 22 – 53 | 8.1 |
| 3.6 | 140 · 200 · 250 · 290 · 360 | 33 – 102 | 18.2 |
| 4.5 | 200 | 50 | 22.2 |
| 4.8 | 160 · 175 · 200 · 250 · 290 · 360 | 38 – 100 | 22.2 |
| 4.8 | 430 · 530 | 123 – 155 | 25.8 |
| 7.6 | 200 · 250 · 290 · 360 · 450 · 530 · 650 · 750 | 49 – 218 | 54.4 |
| 9 | 530 · 780 · 1500 | 150 – 460 | 79.8 |
| 12.6 | 1000 | 295 | 114 |
Same length, nearly seven times the strength
Take the 200 mm length: it closes a bundle between 49 and 53 mm in diameter, yet its strength rises from 8.1 to 54.4 kg depending on the width. When the application involves vibration or high loads, checking the width of the cable tie is the key to a reliable cabling job.

Full chart: 31 sizes in natural and black
The COBRA® polyamide 6.6 (PA6.6) cable tie range includes 31 sizes, available in natural and black. We use only first-grade virgin raw material in production. The black version contains carbon black, which helps protect the material against UV radiation.

How to choose in four steps
1. Measure the diameter to close.
Choose a cable tie whose maximum closing diameter is larger than the object to be secured, leaving some margin so the tail is easier to grip during installation. If you plan to add more cables later, allow for the final diameter from the start, and remember the pre-locking tooth on our COBRA cable ties.
2. Assess the load.
For light harnesses, consider a 2.5 mm width (8.1 kg); for pipes, conduits or heavy bundles, move up to 7.6 mm (54.4 kg) or 9 mm (79.8 kg).
3. Assess the operating environment.
Standard PA6.6 cable ties have an operating temperature from −40 °C to +85 °C and must be installed between −10 °C and +60 °C. Choose natural for indoor environments and black, which contains carbon black, for outdoor applications. For special operating conditions, cable ties with specific technical characteristics are available.
4. Choose the packaging.
Bags of 100 pieces are available for all sizes, bags of 50 pieces for sizes 140 × 3.6, 200 × 4.5 and 290 × 4.8 mm, and bags of 1000 pieces for eight selected sizes in widths of 2.5, 3.6 and 4.8 mm.
With a diameter of about 50 mm, consider the 200 x 2.5, 200 x 3.6, 200 x 4.5, 200 x 4.8 and 200 x 7.6 sizes.
The 1500 x 9 mm (codes 9540 natural and 9541 black): it closes bundles up to 460 mm with 79.8 kg strength.
In the standard range, the 7.6, 9 and 12.6 mm widths make up the heavy-duty class, intended for fastenings that require high mechanical strength.
| Cable tie width | Min. declared strength |
|---|---|
| 7.6 mm | 54.4 kg |
| 9 mm | 79.8 kg |
| 12.6 mm | 114 kg |
They are available in several lengths, in natural and black. To choose the right cable tie, consider the strength required, the diameter of the application and the operating conditions. Check sizes, codes and strengths in the technical datasheet of COBRA® standard cable ties.
It identifies standard cable ties with widths of 7.6, 9 and 12.6 mm and minimum declared strengths of 54.4, 79.8 and 114 kg respectively. The length is chosen according to the diameter to be secured.
It is the minimum tensile strength value declared by the manufacturer for the cable tie closed in a loop, determined under the test conditions of the EN 62275 standard. In the technical tables for the COBRA® cable ties made by Cieffeplast shown on this website, a selector lets you display strength in newtons (N) or in the equivalent expressed in kg.
