One of the most characteristic use of Cieffeplast cable ties is with no doubt on the back of whales.<\/p>\n

The Tethys Research Institute, established in 1986, is a private non-profit organisation specialised in the research on cetaceans. The researchers of this precious Institute use Cieffeplast Cobra cable ties to fasten tools on an epoxy resin support then applied on the back of whales and dolphins in the Mediterranean Sea. The tool is made of two parts, a recorder which saves in real time the depht reached by the animal, its swimming speed and the temperature of the water, and a radio transmitter which allows to follow the animal.<\/p>\n

The underwater activity of globicephala, grampus and sperm whales is studied by attaching an underwater detector to the animals (v-TDR, velocity time-depth recorder) a tool able to record parameters such as depth and the moving speed of the animal. The v-TDR is attached to the animal with a suction cup, then it is necessary to follow the radio signals with a directional antenna. After the retrieval of the instrument, which leaves the animal after a few hours, they monitor all the underwater data at the computer. The cable ties are used to fix the recorder to its orange support, so as to easily remove it once retrieved and download all the data in the computer.<\/p>\n

With this peculiar application Cieffeplast gives its contribution to help the research on these wonderful animals.<\/p>\n
