Cable Tie Sizes: Length, Bundle Diameter and Tensile Strength Chart<\/h2>

Choosing the right cable tie size comes down to two numbers: the diameter you need to close, which sets the length, and the load to be held, which sets the width. COBRA standard PA6.6 nylon cable ties<\/a> range from 80 x 2.4 mm (max. \u00d8 17 mm, 8 kg strength) to 1500 x 9 mm (max. \u00d8 460 mm, 79.8 kg strength).<\/p>

Same length, nearly seven times the strength<\/h2>

Take the 200 mm length: it closes a bundle between 49 and 53 mm in diameter, yet its strength rises from 8.1 to 54.4 kg depending on the width. When the application involves vibration or high loads, checking the width of the cable tie is the key to a reliable cabling job.<\/p>

How to choose in four steps<\/h2>

1. Measure the diameter to close.<\/h3>

Choose a cable tie whose maximum closing diameter is larger than the object to be secured, leaving some margin so the tail is easier to grip during installation. If you plan to add more cables later, allow for the final diameter from the start, and remember the pre-locking tooth on our COBRA cable ties.<\/p>

2. Assess the load.<\/h3>

For light harnesses, consider a 2.5 mm width (8.1 kg); for pipes, conduits or heavy bundles, move up to 7.6 mm (54.4 kg) or 9 mm (79.8 kg).<\/p>

3. Assess the operating environment.<\/h3>

Standard PA6.6 cable ties have an operating temperature from \u221240 \u00b0C to +85 \u00b0C and must be installed between \u221210 \u00b0C and +60 \u00b0C. Choose natural for indoor environments and black, which contains carbon black, for outdoor applications. For special operating conditions, cable ties with specific technical characteristics are available.<\/p>

4. Choose the packaging.<\/h3>
